Signs To Look Out For In Senior Care
from:It may appear as a task at most times, especially when you have to exert physical efforts in caring for older people. But life would be easier if you knew the signs that you should watch out for and the action that you should take upon seeing such signs.
Depression in Older People
As people age, they get more grumpy. Other people might feel untowardly to the elders because of this, but you have to understand that this is part of the process that they are going through.
The depression that they feel may be attributed to the bodily changes that they feel as years go by. Those who are caring for them should look out for signs of depression because this type of ailment is often not diagnosed nor treated.
As people age, they see transformations in their physical attributes that may lead to further depression. The effect could be lessened if they have companions who regularly talk to them and people who look out for their best interests to help them feel better about themselves despite what they are going through.
Thyroid Hormone Deficiency
This type of sickness is common among older people. But this is also commonly misdiagnosed and is being blamed on old age. But the fact is that thyroid hormone deficiency is usually the cause of depression for seniors.
If treated well and with proper medication, this condition can improve and eventually, the person who is suffering from it will get well.
Symptoms of Depression
Aside from seeing lack of enthusiasm on how they move and on their faces, you can perceive that an elderly is suffering from depression when they have one or more of these symptoms: memory gap, confusion with the littlest of things, withdrawal from crowds and gatherings, lack of appetite and changes in sleep patterns.
It is also a sign that an older person is suffering from depression when they often think of past mistakes and sad thoughts. Negative ideas can bring forth sadness that leads to such states.
Cure for Depression
Older people often respond to anti-depressant sessions. But family members should also be attentive to their needs. They should be attentive and respectful to the feelings of the senior members of the household.
Caring for older people is the main cure to their depression. Prevent such while you can by just being there as a companion, as a listener to whatever they want to say.
